ANN WHEELER

Ann is a freelance practising textile artist and tutor who taught City and Guilds embroidery at Fareham College, Hampshire for over 20 years. She was a national advisor for the City and Guilds lacemaking as well as external verifier for both that and embroidery and other textile crafts.   She is a member of the Textile Study Group as well as the Westhope Group and has exhibited both at home and abroad.  As a lacemaker she is passionate in believing that we of this generation must leave something unique behind, not just rest on the laurels of tradition and help to get lacemaking accepted as a textile art. To this end she supports the Westhope Group and tries in her teaching to encourage experimentation. She enjoys the challenge of constructing large scale work using contemporary yarns. Her work is based on research and observation of the source material and this is recorded in sketchbooks that are an important part of the process.
