MARGARET CLARK

Margaret Clark, although born in the lace city of Nottingham, did not encounter hand-made lace until she moved briefly to Weybridge in 1971. Her interest in mathematics, in which she has an honours degree, has emerged in the design and drafting of patterns for bobbin lace, and in the creation of unusual forms and shapes for lace, some of which actually worked in practice!  Having been persuaded to leave pattern making in order to teach and work on the setting up the City & Guilds lace exam (she was one of the prime movers in the creation of both it and of the Westhope Group), followed by further study with the Open University, she is now hoping to return to experimental lace while indulging in her other passion, the inland waterway system.
