ROBINA MELVILLE

Textiles have been an interest of Robina’s from an early age. On moving to the Edinburgh area over 25 years ago she was fortunate to find a bobbin lace class and join a local lacemaking group. After a grounding in the basics of bobbin lace with Margaret Belford she went on to attend the annual Edinburgh Lace Course and many weekend courses, in Edinburgh and throughout Britain learning from a number of excellent teachers, notably Kitty Mason.

Robina works in a variety of lacemaking techniques including needlelace and tatting, as well as bobbin lace, and enjoys playing with colour, texture and materials. She also likes to combine lacemaking with other crafts such as jewellery making and felting. Growing up in a farming family the countryside and concern for the natural world are strong influences on her work and thinking.

A member of The Westhope Group since 2012 she has shown work with the group at First Thoughts (2013/14), Shape Shifting (2014), Inspired by Machinery (2017) and Let the River Flow By (2019).
