PAT BRUNSDON
Pat started making Lace in 1965 when, newly married and having moved from Bristol to Cambridgeshire, she was looking at evening classes at the local secondary school. Quite by chance she found 'Lacemaking'.
From week one Pat was inspired and like many do, began with making traditional laces leading to many years teaching both adults and children. Manipulating thread to produce a textile was just magical.
It was when embarking on a City and Guilds course in 1990 that Pat discovered the delights of colour and texture. No more Frilly and White!!
She now enjoys the challenge of taking what is usually perceived as a flat textile into free standing three dimensional objects. When the shapes Pat is working become more complex, using wire within the construction is invaluable. If a piece is to be displayed flat, Pat does like to be able to see through it if possible – lace generally being described as a fabric with holes.
Although her aim is to move lacemaking into more of an ‘Art Form’ Pat does like it to contain some recognisable technique.
Pat joined The Westhope Group in 2017 and really values the support being part of a group gives also the challenges of exhibiting to a given theme.
